Snapshot 3

My parents don't necessarily support what my brother wants to do for a job, but I do. He wants to be in the CIA. He's majoring in security and intelligence and minoring in Russian at OSU. So I wrote this poem about him because he truly is an inspiration to me.

My Brother

My brother is my best friend, he has always been there for me
My brother is a role model, he's strong and opinionated
My brother is a clown, he's sarcastic and witty
My brother is giving, he's nice and warm-hearted
My brother is a force, he's determined and driven

A person you can rely on is someone like my brother
A person you can laugh with is someone like my brother
My brother is so ambitious, it's infectious
Infectious to the point where you want to be just like him
Being like my brother is a goal

My brother is like a lion that never gives up on its prey
He chases until he succeeds
And after he's done chasing he finds more prey
He chases everything until he's the best at it
And he is the best at it.

  1. I love how made the “is” italic. It tells me that you are implying that he is the best at chasing after his goals. Love it!

  2. I really like the repetition you used throughout the poem and I can relate to it like crazy. I have two older brothers and I have always looked up to them like they were gods or something. I also think it is cool how you compared him to an animal because its different, I never saw a comparison of a person in that way especially but mainly in a poem.

  3. Your poem is very strong I think the way you repeated my brother my brother made it more powerful and it stood out more to me because usually when you repeat something that is what you want the reader to focus on. Very good

  4. Your poem definitely spoke out to me and more importantly its meaning. I love how you will always support him no matter what happens. Lastly, I love your use of literary devices especially your metaphor comparing him to a lion.

  5. Your poem is one of my favorites Aubrey! I think that your brother's dreams are in the stars, and he can get there I believe in him! Your poem has an awesome use of metaphors in it! Where you compared him to a lion I thought was something I wouldn't have thought of! Awesome job!
