In chapter 10 of One and Done I feel like there are a lot of themes but the ones that I see most of are injustice and the abuse of power used by the NCAA. Macuire Clarett had problems with Andy Geiger because Clarett had called him a liar right before the national championship game. The car that someone had loaded to Clarett had got broken into and they stole 800 CD's. They said that he had lost about $12,000. The investigators and the NCAA questioned him about where he got all this money from. He told them that they belonged to the owner of the car. They thought though that he bought them from using boosters money.  They thought they needed to take back the national championship trophy the university just won. "I still don't know what the hell Geiger was thinking, to this day, other than he was going to show this kid from the streets of Youngstown he was the master of the plantation" (Clarett 158). I feel like this just shows that some people are willing to do anything to get the outcome they wanted to make themselves feel good and to feed their ego.

My biggest role model in my life would have to be my Grandpa. He is the hardest worker that I know. He lives in California and owns his own Financial Planning Company. He is very successful and smart. He is so involved in my life and i'm always on the phone talking with him. He gives me great advice and always gives me the motivation to keep going. Truth is I didn't want to go to college but he has inspired me to do so and i'm loving it. All around I am so blessed to have him in my life.

  1. You brought up some good points about chapter 10 and that quote that you chose was very powerful. I underlined that sentence in my active reading. It’s kind of sad that people will do anything to help their career or their ego when people in that position should be helping them. Especially in Clarett’s case since he just helped them win a national title. It’s great that you have your grandpa in your life and how he has a huge impact in your life. I’m glad you're liking college so far and I hope you continue to enjoy it and get what you came here for.

  2. I think how you brought up the power of abuse in Chapter 10 is something I didn't think of. I think that is a great point. I agree about what you said with Geiger and how people are willing to do anything to get more power to him it feels. Also, it's great you have a strong connection with your Grandfather. I believe there are a lot of life lessons people can learn from their grandparents.
