The poem I enjoyed reading the most and could connect to the most was “The Lanyard” by Billy Collins. In this poem, the author talks about a gift he is making for his mothers and how much his mother means to him. In a way, the author uses irony by explaining all the things his mother did for him and how he is repaying her with a handmade lanyard gift he is making in camp. My Favorite line from the poem is “and taught me to walk and swim and I in turn presented her with my lanyard” (Collins). This line caught my eye because he is giving examples of things his mother did for him and even though the lanyard is small, he is proud of it. The way he see's his mother is similar to the way I see mine. I am proud of my mom and everything she has done for me.

A chapter in The House on Mango Street that caught my eye and stuck with me was A House of My Own. This chapter isn’t very long, but if you read closely there are many details you can pick out from the reading. In this chapter Esperanza describes to us her dream house, a house where she doesn’t have to share with anyone, a house where she is alone and by herself. In a way, I can relate because there are days where I daydream about my dream house and what it would be like to live in it.
