                                                                    Journal 7:

In my life, I know a lot of people who are passionate about their career choice and how seriously they take their jobs. But, the person who I notice the most in the world around me is my father. My father is a HVAC Master Technician. HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. When you call someone who comes to your house to fix your heater or air conditioner, that's people like my father. My dad has been in this business for twenty-eight years and is still going strong. My dad never was into the whole college thing so, he worked with his cousin when he was 21 and started to learn about the business. He then went to a trade school and got his diploma in HVAC work and started working from his own truck. I think what led my father to working in this field was that he is very intelligent and always loved to work with his hands and fix things. I'll always call him when I have furnace issues and he is always happy to help.

I  think the Introduction to Callings was outstanding. To me, not only did it make me excited to start to read about these amazing people and find out their callings in life and to also see how different each job is from the next but, I also believe he wrote the Introduction this way to make us, the readers, encouraged to find our "calling" in life. The author wrote this in the introduction, and it spoke to me so much, that I highlighted it. Isay wrote, "As you'll read in these stories, finding what you're meant to do with your life has a lot to do with careful listening - to that quiet voice inside that speaks to who you really are" (Isay 4). I think that could speak to a lot of people in many different ways.

My favorite profiles in the book this far is, Forensic Artist, Sharon Long talking with Steve Sutter. I think that this story is really inspiring because this women was working 24/7 with multiple jobs, and being a single parent. She took up anthropology and found her calling there because she was so gifted at making faces for these skulls. She goes into detail and imagines their lives and feels for them, etc. I could tell it was her calling by the fact that she knew technology was going to out-do her, but she was happy it could do so. I think that's really special.

This photo is to help people who might not know much about HVAC work, this is what they do amongst many other things to keep your home work and/or cool!

  1. It's awesome how you look up to your dad for following his calling! Has he always worked in HVAC? I really loved the introduction too, I even highlighted almost exactly the same line you did. The forensic artist profile was very interesting to me too, although it wasn't my favorite it was very admirable that she worked so much so often while juggling other things too.

    1. Hi Aubrey! Yes my father has always been in HVAC field! It's the only thing that he loves and can see himself working with! Thankfully, he was good enough to start up his own company!

  2. I definitely can imagine how hard working your dad is just from the little snip it you told us about. Knowing what he was really good at and going for it going to trade school instead of a traditional college. I don't hear much of people going to trade schools so I don't know too much about it but I would like to. Do you think he has encouraged you to also find your calling as well?

  3. Hi Marina! Yes I think he has shown me through his many years of determination that I almost have the exact same work ethic that, when I find something that I feel is my calling, I will do anything to keep it and constantly work to perfect it.
