Within chapter 10 of One and Done by Clarett the main theme here would be betrayal and defamation. In this chapter we see Clarett’s demise of his football carreer due to one of the main incidents was the car break in. His car was broken into in which he contacted Tressel and obeyed what he said and filed a police report.  What was odd for me was the fact that the incident happened in spring but until summer everything it was big news. Clarett was not allowed to play on the spring ball and this is when he put all the puzzle pieces in place. Later in the chapter the NCAA was involved and Clarett was thinking that Andy Geier was responsible for it due to Clarett saying he was a liar. Once Clarett explains in deep why was Andy doing this, Jim Brown knew and pinpointed what Andy was trying to do: “He could easily see all the intention behind what Geier. He could see all the intention behind what Geier was trying to do to me and why” (Clarett 158). Down the chapter we see that once Clarett was done at OSU that’s where his mental health was on decline, “numb”as he claims. It’s a shame after all the effort that he placed on the team to now amounted to nothing.

When I was around the age of 14 I did have moved to the State of Pennsylvania ( It was my very first time living in the U.S) her name was Angel Derrick and she was as my mother states “her guardian angel” due to she was always checking up on us and would make sure we have the bare essentials.  Initially we got some little help from our aunt getting a place and all not remotely knowing the area or anything and Derrick helped us through the little town we were located. It was really nice and even her family was so welcoming and definitely will be forever thankful for her. That woman indeed is one of my role models to this day, I do miss her and plan to visit her soon. One of the attitudes that I forever remember and try to replicate in my life helping others when they need it the most

  1. I think it's amazing how you had a "guardian angel" in a sense. Seeing the world today and how selfish people are it is rare to see someone help other out of the kindness of their heart. It's awesome to me that you're going to go back and thank her for the help.

  2. I like the theme of Defamation but also had the same theme of betrayal in my analysis. I am glad to see that someone agrees. I really agree with your line before your quote which states "Once Clarett explains in deep why was Andy doing this, Jim Brown knew and pinpointed what Andy was trying to do" This is also one of the lines that I had wanted to include into my reading but chose not to. It seemed as though Jim really knew what he was doing and where all of this nonsense stemmed from. Moving onto your influence in life I can relate to this "guardian angel" that you have save for the fact that your angel is still alive where as mine is not. My mother and father had a child before me it was a girl and she was born in Louisiana. Far from here anyhow she would have been my older sister but she will forever be three. Anyhow due to one fateful night before Halloween in the neighborhood my parents lived in at the time they were hosting trick or treat. My parents were busy that night so they entrusted her care to the neighbors. Unfortunately she fell out of the wagon they were pulling her in and it was not realized until to late that she had suffered internal brain damage and was bleeding on the inside. She died down south so my parents came here closer to family. To this day we believe that she watches over us. I hope that your guardian does the same.
