Out of all the poems that we read, the one that I like the most is The Lanyard by Billy Collins. When we listened to it in class I got a way better understanding of the poem. The poem is very sarcastic and clever. It was funny and very ironic. My favorite line from the poem would have to be "She gave me life and milk from her breasts, and I gave her a lanyard" (Collins). I think that this is so funny. When you are born it's your parents job to raise you and be there for you. He gives his mom a lanyard he made a camp. This to me is so funny. My favorite word in this poem is "gift". This is what the whole poem is about, him giving his mother a gift which would be the lanyard.
There is one chapter that stuck the most out to me and that is "A house of my own". I liked this one the most because as she says in this chapter. "It's not a flat, not an apartment, not a man's house, not a daddy's, a house all to her own" (Cisneros 108). She finally has a house all to herself. She doesn't have to pick up stuff after anybody or anything. It's a quiet house and a space for herself.
I made this when I was in like elementary school or the beginning on middle school. It was meant to be like a storage box where you can put stuff in it, and it's made out of clay. I made it for my mom. I think that this kinda represents the lanyard in a way. I gave it to her for mother's day.
I think that box is really cool to be honest and the best part about those gifts we make for our moms is how unique they are. No other mom in the world will have a box that looks just like that. I also liked how you connected this to The Lanyard poem because it is essentially the same idea. I think that the chapter you chose was also a really good chapter or short story considering it was two paragraphs. I wish you elaborated about it more though.
ReplyDeleteHey Logan, I think "A house of my own" is also a very interesting chapter. I think the language that she used in that chapter is very imaginative and paints a good picture of what the house is like. Wouldn't you agree?
ReplyDeleteHi Logan, I think the Chapter in House on Mango Street is a really important chapter in the book, it shows us how much she can envision what her house will look like in her future. I think your gift is amazing that you gave to your mom. It really shows how much we all appreciate our Mother's with the gifts we give them!
