Journal 4
I noticed in chapter 10 of One And Done the theme or idea of money/image over the truth. What I mean by this is that continuously, Clarett gets thrown under the bus but it seems as if the people who are supposed to help him or know what is best for him are the same people who in essence, turned on him. Making accusations which were stretched from the truth, trying to grad at something to be able to put the blame on him. Neither NACC or Geiger helped, because they were the ones trying to accuse Clarett of anything. When I say anything, I mean that they questioned him about everything, none of which had to do with the original problem which was the car break in but later turns into him being off the team. They also skewed that too. Clarett says, “In my mind, I’m thinking, I just made all you tens of millions of dollars. Tens of millions, going out on the field hurt, with swollen ankles, a hurt shoulder, and headaches. I took long ass needles in my joints and had surgeries and there were like hours on end I killed myself training and conditioning and they let this happen to me.” (Clarett 160). When I heard they I just thought of the whole organization. How they did not care about him.
I didn’t have just one person who greatly influenced me, I had two. It was most definitely my older brothers who really made the impact on how I act today and so much more. They kind of set up for me what I should do and shouldn’t do around the house or in school. They really saved my butt in that aspect but also because everyone looked at me and if they knew them, they already had a preconceived idea of what I should be like as well. If you look from a far standpoint the three of us are so similar but look deeper and you can really see our differences. My humor came from Rio. My ideologies came from Skyler. Just for some examples. We also aren’t super close in age but also not too far apart which I also think made a huge impact. I only went to school with one brother and it was only until 1st grade so for a while we weren’t super close. However now, we are literally the closest we have been and I will forever be learning from them
Thanks for getting us started Marina! Your brothers sound like good influences and I have lots of questions about the specific impact they have had on you. We will use all these good personal examples as discussion starters for Monday!
