Journal 3

Hello, welcome back to my blog. How’s everyone’s day going? Good I hope, and if not then maybe it’ll get better who knows really? Starting off with my active reading. I believe that my active reading is going pretty good overall. I feel that I miss highlighting some important details in One and Done, but it’s all good because I usually catch them in class. In The House on Mango Street I believe that I get most of the important aspects of the story. I enjoy active reading most of the time which is weird to me, but I believe that I understand the story better when I do.

Onto the next topic, I like to annotate The House on Mango Street more than One and Done, because it comes more natural to me. I think it’s because it’s a work of fiction with hidden meanings and recurring trends that are easy for me to spot. Overall I enjoy reading One and Done more though. I enjoy reading it because it tells a story that is more interesting to me.

Something important I noticed in One and Done is that he was offered a lot of help and scholarships because of football. Being a part of the football team allowed him to have a job at the catering company as a dishwasher. They also gave him an apartment to get him out of Youngstown to set him on a better path in life. He was also offered many scholarships because of his athletic ability to a couple Big Ten schools.

  1. I agree he was helped a lot by people in his football path. I thought it showed people cared about him.

  2. Clarett had a lot of people who wanted to see him succeed and get him out of his old ways in order to progress and better himself.

  3. Hi grant I’m doing well. I do agree with you One and Done is really hard too keep track of all the important factors in the stories. Also I agree that The House On Mango street is a lot easier to understand.

  4. Yeah agree with most of the stuff you talked about. The House On Mango street is easier to read, but One and Done is more relatable. Active reading has been fun and has helped me understand the book better and when we talk about it in class. I always seem to miss the key point though but like you said its all good since we talk about it in class.

  5. I agree football did set him up on a better path. I feel like if it wasn't for sports we would never know about this guy. I think it's cool he got a apartment and a job.
