In the book, The House on Mango Street the theme that stood out the most is, coming of age. In the book, we meet a character named Esperanza who shares a quick overview of her hectic life of moving from different run-down apartments every year to finally moving to a house on Mango Street. I feel that this is important because I am predicting that from the environment Esperanza lives in, it is going to shape who she is and how she grows up. I have seen this theme in my own life. With my parents divorced I have moved a lot of times from place to place and I understand the feeling of not being able to call home a permanent place to stay. As I have grown older I have learned a different kind of perspective in life and it has shaped me into the way I am. My favorite passage that I highlighted from The house on Mango Street is "There. I had to look to where she pointed - the third floor, the paint peeling, wooden bars Papa had nailed on the windows so we wouldn't fall out. You live there? The way she said it made me feel like nothing." Esperanza obviously does not like showing where she lives to other people because it is embarrassing and no one would want what Esperanza has to do. I love this passage because I can feel how Esperanza feels at this moment, the humiliation of having to show her home to other people when she doesn't want to.

Hey Jospeh it's Angel I do share the same car interest as you. Which brand is your favorite and the model? or at least one that stands out for you a lot.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, there are too many to choose from, but, if I had to choose, it would probably be an R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R.
DeleteHi Jospeh I’m Grant, I also share an interest in cars. I’d like to do more work when it comes to buying used cars and fixing them up because it sounds like it would be a lot of fun. I don’t think I really know enough to actually do that though. How did you get into cars and working on them? Overall it sounds like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, when I first started I felt completely lost because there are so many aspects to it, my advice would to, try and get with a few buddies and work on a car if you guys got one. The way I got into cars was just surrounding myself in the car community and reading up on the subject.
