Response Exercise - Logan Cauthen

I think that the chapter that I relate to the most in The House on Mango Street is the first chapter. They are always moving around from apartment to apartment all the time. They never stay in one place that they can call their own house. They kept having kids so every time they moved they had more people coming with them. She said that she lived on Loomis on the third floor, and before that she lived on Keeler, and before that was Paulina and before that she couldn't remember.

I relate to this a lot because i’m from California. I was born there and lived there for a while. My mom was still going through school and so we were very poor. We lived in a really bad apartment at the time. I absolutely hated it there. Years later we lived in a duplex. That was alright. It was better than an apartment to me. After that we finally lived in our first house. We still didn’t own it though we were renting it. Just a few short years later we moved into the house I am today and own the house completely. I feel like this is a lot of moving around then what most people do in their lifetime.

This is the chain that I wear around my neck every single day. I got it for a graduation gift from my dad. He bought it when he was just a kid and wore it. This chain was really expensive back then I have no idea how much it would be worth now but it doesn’t matter because I wouldn’t trade it for any amount.

  1. Hi Logan, I really enjoyed the first chapter as well because I was able to relate to it too, I've always been constantly on the move and just waiting for when and where I move to next. That must've been really tough moving place to place especially in such a busy state like California. Im glad you have settled down in a home that is yours.

  2. Hey Logan, I can't exactly relate to you or the first chapter but I can a little. I moved houses from Lima, OH to Delaware, OH in the 4th grade. I lost all my friends and was alone for a period of time. I can only imagine what you went through with moving multiple times.
