Snapshot One: My Name

The history of my name dates to old welsh origin and means “Hawk of Battle” at least that is what I was led to believe. “Gavin is a male given name. It is a variation on the medieval name Gawain, meaning "Godsend" or "white hawk" (or falcon)”-Wikipedia So my initial thoughts are blueprints when compared to the final product, which was almost true although slightly off. I have not run into a significant challenge with my name save for when another Gavin is present. Which happened to me in third grade and high school sharing my name with one other person in both cases. In both cases, my doppelganger was not as interesting as I was, and the high school boy even bullied me a bit. But I have a feeling he was bothered that we shared names and I was usually getting into trouble which to my belief did not sit well with him. I always have not given to much thought to my name, and I am usually concerned with other people because I feel very comfortable in my own skin. Although after the years went on the other Gavin went on to be a track running right alongside our school’s greatest athlete at the time and I was just other Gavin the loud obnoxious one who always threw out his voice. In a way, he was the common sporty Porsche 911 turbo and I was the lifted Ford Diesel 4x4 with no exhaust. I also went on to make a lot more friends than he ever had in our last two years I made it a point of knowing everyone’s name by heart in my grade and also had younger classmen who looked up to me in a funny kind of way. In the end, I think I won but I am sure that he would say otherwise. Most of the time I see that a name is like a well-trained border collie. It is cute or likable to some for its looks and to others, it is cunning smart, and underestimated. Yes. Something like OpsChief1 will do.

  2. Hi Gavin! I loved the metaphors you used throughout this and how you even though we weren't considered to be "popular" you stayed true to your strengths and stayed positive and I think that is a great way to look at things.

  3. Hi OpsChief1, I really enjoy how you made that analogy to you being a Ford Diesel 4X4 and the other Gavin being a Porsche 911. I believe that you comparing yourself in that way sets you apart from everyone else. Everyone is out there burning gas while you’re using diesel, and I believe that you’re most likely fine with that. If you ever wanna talk cars or just have a general conversation I’m totally down.
