JOURNAL 4

I believe that there many themes throughout this chapter of the book, but the one that stood out to me the most is inequality. Maurice is excused of filing a false police report and goes under investigation by the NCAA, they are excusing him of where he got the money to buy thousands of dollars worth of CDs. As the story went on he knew where it was going, he believed that OSU had turn there back on him and was ready to kick him out because he was a boy from the streets he quotes, " This is when Jim brown got involved and was saying, Yo you're not trying to save this kid from the streets- you're trying to kick him back out into the streets. Jim Brown knew from the jump that this shit was a sham"( Clarett 156). He knew this was the goal as he was invested 5 more times to get him to throw OSU program out.  He believed this started when he called Andy Geiger a "liar", he thinks he was the one trying to get him out from the program and due to the background history of Clarett he was able to make something out of this. Claiming he was still just a kid from the streets.Personally I believe that Andy guy is a child. having your star go under investigation because he called you a name, that is just childish in my opinion. This led to the downfall of Clarett causing him to get back into drugs and alcohol.

I think one person that I can say is a role model to me is my older brother Anthony. We are only a year apart but he  acts like we are multiple years apart. This kid has the heart of angel, he will always have my back no matter what happens. We played hockey together for the past 10 years it was life changing, he would always push me to do my best, even if I thought I was doing my best. We were brothers yes so we got in fights and arguments but at the end of the day he was just always trying to make me a better person and he definitely has. Whenever we played hockey together we would always have competitions to see who would do better and somedays it would be me and some days him, we pushed each other to be the best we could be even at home he'd make sure I was always safe and doing what needed to be done. Hes someone I will always look up too, even though hes 500 miles away now we are still connected and I am thankful everyday to have someone like him in my life.

  1. This was a really good way of explaining Chapter 10 Andrew! I respect your brother being your role model, not many people look at siblings as being their role models, so that's really nice!

  2. I like the quote that you used from chapter 10. I have a brother too and we played soccer together our whole life so I can kinda relate with you and your brother. How you guys push each other and stuff.

  3. Yes I agree that it was very childish the way that Andy handled things, but it was also warranted for the way that Maurice was acting. It was on both sides and it could have been dealt with better. All of this did end up to his return to using drugs which is very sad but he’s on the right path now.
It is very cool that your brother is your role model. I’m glad that your still keeping in touch with him even though he is so far away. It would have been nice for Maurice Clarett if he had that brotherly bond and if he could’ve helped Clarett go on the right path.

  4. Hi Andrew, my brother is also one of my role models. He's about 5 years older than me, but only acts like hes a year or two older. I never realized how close me and him were until he moved away.
