Journal Eight:
One of the stories that were my favorite was Forensic Artist Sharon Long. This one was my favorite because it showed how hard she really worked to bring these skulls to life with how realistic she made them. She tried to bring them back to life almost due to how real they looked when finished. I also liked this story because this was her art, and she loved what she did for people and her job. At first, she never had the confidence but, getting multiple different skulls, she gained the confidence to work for years. A story I didn't like as much was Sculptor Olga Ayala talks about her Mother Ramona Cruz. I feel like these two relate to each other to me because they both found their calling in the art world but two different aspects. They both worked as long as they could and had a true passion for what they did.
The most important difference I saw in these two profiles was that while Sharon Long actually went to school for a sculpting degree and then switched to anthropology, Ramona Cruz didn't get to go to school to hone in on her craft. She had to be a stay-at-home Mother and never fully show her gift to the public eye or get an actual education.
What I relate to with these profiles is that I have the artistic bone in my body as well. Although I use my artistic ability on the stage or on film, as an actress, I still want to show my abilities to the world, like these women. But I relate more to Sharon Long because she got to go to school to get her degree, I got my certificate for acting for people to know I've had professional training. Also, Sharon Long is very proud of her work and I am proud of my work in my field.
These were some great stories I feel bad for the mother. I'm glad she was able to pass on the artistic ability to her kids. The forensic artist is a really cool job to have although they really aren't in as much need anymore. I feel like 3d printers or technology will eventually wipe that profession out. It's cool though to hear about her story as one. I also think it is cool that you were in a movie and that you've had training. I haven't heard of that movie but I'll definitely look it up after this.
ReplyDeleteHi Mason, yes I do agree with you that 3d printers will eventually take over a-lot of jobs that have people that do those jobs.
DeleteHailey, I never acted but when I went back to school at age 28, I volunteered to do sets and got a small part in a university Shakespeare play. I do admire people who can act, and it's a total lost art. I was horrible at it but it was so much fun and I learned a ton, and it really helped me as a writer. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mr. Lohre! It's definitely a proud skill set for me to be able to tell people!
DeleteI think it is very cool that you have taken a profession in acting. I know that it will take you places! I'm trying to get two years in film studies and another two in film making.
