JOURNAL EIGHT

One of the stories that I liked the most was the one about the firefighters. I liked this the most because his son was on his was to law school, a very prestiges thing to do in life and hard to become. All of a sudden one day though he was taken to the fire department and instantly fell in love with it. There family was poor and had no money so it was nice to see that they were able to make it out of that life. They were able to make a living and actually the best of all safe others life. He strived to be like his dad, they had a very good father and son bond which inspired me. One story I didn't like as much, but reminded me of this one was the one talking about the surgeon. I feel like these two relate in some sort of way because both fathers in each story were looked up too. In this story she would always go into the room with her father and she loved it. Both of these stories followed in there parents footsteps.

The main difference in these stories is probably how they got to where they were going to be. The fire fighter story started off with the kid wanting to go to law school and wanted to become an attorney just so that he could make a living and take care of his family he will start some day. He then soon realized that isn't what he wanted to do. On the other hand the girl in the surgeon story was set on becoming a physician her whole life. She knew that was her fathers job in world war 2 and she knew and was set on becoming like him. She stuck with her goal and didn't let go like most people do.

A connection I made with the fire fighter story was probably   how the dad was so supportive for the kid. It reminds of my father and I connection. I always had dreams of playing hockey to make a living and care for my family. But my dad had a job and always told me to pursue this because it made a good living. I eventually started to fall from hockey and went with him one day to work and saw all the computer screens and stock charts and fell in love. It was like a whole different world in there it was crazy and made me wonder if I could do that. I eventually got really into and started teaching myself this stuff with the the help of him of course when he had time.

  1. I like the firefighter story as well I even wrote about it in my journal. Those were good points you made about how the parents were looked up too. It's very inspirational. I also thought the difference between the two you came up with was cool. I am glad you and your family have such a good bond. It was nice of your dad to help you get into the stock market. I've been trying to get into the stock market as well maybe you could teach me a little bit about it sometime. Anyways it was fun reading your journal. Nice Job!

  2. I also enjoyed reading the firefighter story I was able to make a lot of connections to my own life. I also compared and contrasted the same two stories, I definitely think that both fathers were looked up to because Walcott and Laura both grew up surrounded by there fathers professions. I really like the connection you drew to your own life that is very fascinating, my dad was always supportive of me and what I wanted to do with my life as long as the profession I were to choose is marketable.
